El Sueno Recap
While writing my mid quarter assignment I learned a lot about the ofrendas and the act of giving. What stood out the most to me is how each ofrenda is unique and can be done in multiple different ways. Additionally, I liked how people made things to pay homage and their gratitude to those still living and make an impact in their community through songs, art, and writing. To emphasize on this I focused on how people remember and show appreciation to their loved ones through other forms such as music. This connects to the main theme of the workshop, which was how the dancers showed appreciation to the people that helped them get to where they are through the video they had recorded. The dancers spoke about how they wanted to include those who sacrificed a lot for them as those people were the ones who made it possible for them to be where they currently are at. A great example they used was a flower and its roots. The roots represent the people before you who sacrificed what they had to help those that came before hand. They helped nurture and build the future for who you are today, without seeing the sunshine, which would be the success that they wished they could have achieved. And you represent the flower, the person who got to bloom because of those before you and their help.
